The nation’s six main airlines are to take part in a new program that will see adverts printed on the back of boarding passes.
American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways have teamed up with Sojern in the latest attempt to off-set the rising cost of fuel and increase revenue.
Delta will be the first to pilot the new initiative. Passengers on flights to Las Vegas will notice adverts for certain destinations and special offers on boarding passes.
The system will then be rolled out on all domestic flights for airport-issued boarding passes and those printed out following online check-in.
Marc Ferguson, General Manager of Global Partnerships at Delta, said: “With millions of our passengers checking in online at delta.com each year, the boarding pass becomes an increasingly valuable tool for sharing relevant, timely offers and destination-specific content with our customers before they travel.
“At Delta, we are always looking for innovative, new opportunities to provide added benefits to our customers, and this customized data from Sojern does exactly that.”
The other airlines will launch their versions later this year.
