One of the measurable advantages of alliance links, such as those between bmi and its Star Alliance partners, is the ability to offer discount airfares, deals carriers acting alone would never be able to pull off. bmi’s code-share deals with partner United Airlines, that allow you to fly to Great Britain from points beyond bmi’s two United States gateways, Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Las Vegas (LAS), are a case in point. bmi is selling Economy-Class seats to Manchester (MAN) for as low as $406, round-trip. Add either Aberdeen (ABZ), Glasgow (GLA), or Edinburgh (EDI) to the itinerary for another $38. Not bad.

Book fast, no later than Christmas Eve (Monday, December 24). Then, fly from January 1 through March 31, 2008.

All the discount airfares quoted below are round-trip, but they don’t include taxes or fees. Add those on and it’s extra. You’ll have to purchase seven days prior to departure and stay over at least three days, or a Saturday night. These discount airfares are not refundable.

Here’s a sampling of the bodacious savings bmi is offering to Manchester from:

– Newark (EWR) $406
– Detroit (DTW) $478
– San Jose (SJC) $484
– Tampa (TPA) $494
– Atlanta (ATL) $496
– San Diego (SAN) $500
– Phoenix (PHX) $500
– Columbus (CMH) $536
– Los Angeles (LAX) $540
– Salt Lake City (SLC) $620
– Sacramento (SMF) $658
