There are few more iconic American summer traditions than spending a sunny day on the boardwalk. From treats like cotton candy and taffy to rides and fair stalls, the boardwalk is the center of summer fun. Squeeze in one last summer stroll down one of these U.S. boardwalks.

Coney Island Boardwalk, Brooklyn

New Yorkers from across all five boroughs flock to Coney Island in the summer for a turn on the Cyclone roller coaster and one of Nathan’s Famous hot dogs. The recently restored boardwalk now offers dozens of new rides.

Navy Pier, Chicago

Despite its inland location, Chicago offers idyllic beach side surroundings alongside massive Lake Michigan. On Navy Pier, which stretches into the lake, families can ride the Ferris wheel and play mini golf.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, California

A carnival-like boardwalk on the West Coast, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk sells old-fashioned candies (toffee, nut clusters) and has a Historic Landmark in the 1911 Looff Carousel.

Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, Delaware

Constructed in 1873 and recently renovated, this throwback boardwalk rocks a vintage vibe between its Surfside Arcade and famous salt-water taffy.

Atlantic City, New Jersey

After a direct hit from Hurricane Sandy, the legendary Atlantic City boardwalk is back in action. The landmark is the oldest and longest boardwalk in the world.
