Atlanta (ATL) has it. So does Memphis (MEM), but for a while now Nashville International Airport (BNA) has been bereft of nonstop service to Cancun, one of the Western Hemispheres’ top vacation destinations. That’s about to change.

December 27 is the projected launch date for Saturday-only nonstops between Nashville and the epicenter of the Mayan Riviera. Delta Air Lines will provide the lift. The southbound flight departs BNA at 11:25am, and gets to Cancun at 2:30pm. The northbound leg pushes back from the gate in Cancun at 3:20pm, and is slated to arrive at Nashville at 6:50pm.

Why Saturday-only service? Three reasons: demand, travel schedules, and the fact that since most business travel is on weekdays airlines don’t want their airplanes to sit around idle on weekends. Putting them to work helps pay the bills.
