Welcome news for folks in a couple of smaller southern cities: they’re about to get non-stop service to the nation’s second-busiest airport.
Right now, if you live in either Wilmington, N.C. or Charlottesville, VA you have to change planes to take a trip to Chicago O’Hare – or to tap into American Airlines’ connections for that matter. That’s set to change soon.
American Eagle is primed to launch nonstop Chicago flights to Charlottesville June 9 using 44-passenger Embraer regional jets. Chicago flights to Wilmington are set to get off the ground July 2, also with 44-seat Embraers. There will be a pair of daily nonstops on each route.
Chicago flights to Charlottesville depart at 1:10 p.m. and 8:55 p.m., arriving Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport at 3:55 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. respectively. Charlottesville flights to Chicago leave at 6:30 a.m. and 4:25 p.m., getting to O’Hare at 7:35 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. They’re timed for good connections to American and American Eagle’s O’Hare schedule.
Chicago flights to Wilmington depart at 1:35 p.m. and 8:25 p.m., and are scheduled at the gate at ORD at 4:45 p.m. and 11:35 p.m. Wilmington flights to Chicago depart at 6:00 a.m. and 5:15 p.m., arriving Chicago at 7:20 a.m. and 6:40 p.m.
American is betting Chicago flights to Charlottesville will be especially attractive for University of Virginia students and professors – as well as travelers in bound for historic sites such as Monticello.
Eagles new Chicago flights to Wilmington put the region’s wondrous beaches within easier reach of those who fly regularly out of, or connect over, O’Hare.
