Now that summer has unofficially come to an end, it’s time to expand our DVR’s repertoire beyond guilty pleasures like Jersey Shore and Desperate Housewives of – well, does it matter? We here at Cheapflights are in a twitter over this fall’s line-up of must-see TV. As you may have guessed, first up on our list of shows to record is Pan Am, ABC’s homage to aviation in the 1960s.
Starring the ever awesome Christina Ricci, this period piece is a throwback to the golden age of jetting – when smoking 35,000 feet in the air was hip and flight attendants were beauties gracefully catering to all of your in-flight needs.
Just in time for the show’s premiere, we surveyed Cheapflights newsletter subscribers, asking them – based on various factors – which era of flight they preferred: then or now. The results you’d expect – like complimentary meals and cocktails and included baggage fees – were clearly preferred among the four groups we surveyed: men 60 and older, men under 60, women 60 and older, and women younger than 60.
The fascinating takeaway is that younger women more than any other group prefer tech-savvy amenities like check-in kiosks (over agents) and online booking (over the dial-in method). Also, older men are wildly nostalgic for 60s-era flight – including those stewardesses.
Wi-Fi v. magazines, autopilots v. manual, full-body scans v. minimal security – we measured it all. Check out the results below
So, what’s your preference: flying then or flying now?
