There's no end to the endless options iPhone apps. Just last week I offered my picks for the top iPhone travel apps, and already new apps are hitting the market.

I'll admit I do enjoy a game of TapTap and, truth be told, I am considering a new career in racecar driving, thanks to my unbelievable score with Fastlane, but the best iPhone apps are those that simplify. Enter: AAA's new iPhone app.

The free AAA app – called AAA Discounts – helps track down discounts using GPS technology to identify nearby businesses offering travel deals for AAA members.

I downloaded the app this weekend and walked around Boston to test its functionality. The app starts in map mode and located my position via its internal GPS detector. Within seconds, I had a map of businesses nearby that offered discounts for AAA members. The app includes the address and phone number of the business, and offers directions from your current location.

Many of the results found from the AAA app are hotels, which is exceptionally helpful to travelers looking for a last-minute place to stay when on the road.

The only drawback I found is with the map quality. AAA maps aren't scaled to perfection, but they're good enough. Lilving in Boston, I'm used to seeing subway stops, one-way streets and landmarks in my maps, courtesy of Google maps. AAA offers landmark pinpoints on their maps, but if require more detailed city-specific information Google Maps is better.

The end result: AAA has been offering discounts to members for decades and it's nice to see them join the technology generation. If you're a AAA member this app is worth the download. You can't beat the additional travel discounts.
