Lufthansa Check-in

Web check-in:Online check-in and Mobile check-in open 23 hours before departure.

Check-in machines are available at many airports around the world and counter check-in is the traditional way to start your flight. Late night check-in is also available at several airports. Airport information and check-in options are available here.

Time to Check in: Check-in times vary by airport. See the full list of airports and check-in cut-off times. From lots of airports around the US, the cut-off time is 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Lufthansa baggage allowance

Carry-on allowance 

Economy Class passengers may bring one piece of hand luggage (First and Business Class flyers may take two). The maximum dimensions for a piece of hand luggage are 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm; the maximum weight is 8kg. Foldable garment bags count as hand luggage too (maximum dimensions are 57 cm x 54 cm x 15 cm).

Economy checked baggage allowance 

One bag weighing up to 23 kg. Oversize and overweight baggage fees range from $150 to $300.  See the full list.

Charges for sports equipment range from $70 (bowling equipment or hockey equipment for example) to $150 (hang-gliding equipment or a kayak).

Lufthansa legroom

Seat pitch: 31-32 inches.

Pre-arranged seating

Reserve seats at time of booking or at time of check-in.

Passenger change details

Changes or cancellations depend on the fare class of the ticket. Flights can be cancelled and / or rebooked via the Manage My Bookings page.

Child fares

On international routes infants (aged up to two years) are usually charged 10 percent of the adult fare.

Senior fares

None.

Pets

Animals are transported in the cabin (maximum weight 17 pounds) or cargo hold. Pet owners should notify Reservations at the time of booking (at the latest 24 hours before departure date). The fee is about $100.

Carrying musical instruments

Some small musical instruments may be carried on board. Passengers may purchase a second for larger items such as a guitar or cello.

In-flight service

Complimentary meals and snacks are provided. In-flight entertainment for Economy passengers includes movies, TV and radio and a children’s entertainment package. Lufthansa FlyNet (on-board broadband Internet access) is available on some long-haul aircraft. Lufthansa Magazin is available on every flight. There’s a new, free Lufthansa Magazin iPad app too.

Air miles

Miles & More is the name of Lufthansa’s loyalty program.
