Think of it as the Academy Awards for the Airlines.
The World Airline Awards took place in Hamburg, Germany last week and while we can’t confirm a red carpet or paparazzi, we’re confident there were plenty of happy travelers sitting around the room.
The SKYTRAX World Airline Awards celebrated their 10th anniversary on April 1 and celebrated by handing out airline awards at the ceremony. The SKYTRAX survey was distributed over eight months to more than 16 million air travelers from over 95 different nationalities. Edward Plaisted, Skytrax CEO, handed out awards in 34 categories, all of which were judged by consumers.
The next time you book a flight for your travel plans, consider the winners in these categories: Best In-flight Entertainment, Best In-flight Cabin Crew, Best Costumer Service and many more.
So, which airlines made the grade?
Cathay Pacific Airways picked up the 2009 Airline of the Year, while Malaysia Airlines took the title of Worlds Best Cabin Staff. Emirates won for Best Airline In-flight Entertainment, the sixth time in 10 years. Singapore Airlines took home the Best Airline First Class and Best First Class Airline Catering awards. Closer to home, Continental Airlines was named winner of the Best Airline North America category.
Budget travel wasn’t lost on this year’s awards. AirAsia was named the Worlds Best Low Cost Airline for 2009, ahead of Air Berlin and easyJet.
