This should ease the strain on on-time arrivals in Houston: Runway 9/27 is back in business at Bush Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and it’s better than ever. The new strip has been refurbished, resurfaced and fitted with a sophisticated Category III instrument landing system, or ILS.
The ‘CAT 3’ system permits pilots to land in low-visibility weather with exquisite precision, which means flights aren’t as late and travelers on Houston flights can get to their destination a bit quicker.
Runway 9/27 is one of five takeoff and landing strips at IAH. Bush Houston Intercontinental is Continental Airlines’ base, and a major domestic and international hub for the carrier.
More good news: the $35 million construction project was completed several weeks early, rendering it ready for the heavy Spring Break peak travel period.
