John Travolta, the Hollywood actor and air enthusiast, is suing the owners of an airport adjacent to his “fly-in” community.
The actor claims that James and Christine Garemore, owners of Greystone Airport, changed the site’s master record in 2006, to prevent him from using the runway for his Boeing 707.
Travolta has used the airport regularly when visiting his home at the 550-acre Jumbolair Aviation Estates community in Ocala, Florida, but the Garemores allege his aircraft has damaged the runway.
Speaking to the Associated Press, James Garemore said: “The runway is not suitable for heavy aircraft. It is cracking and breaking.
“They are bringing this lawsuit against me, and all I was doing was trying to maintain safety here.”
However, Michael J McDermott, Travolta’s attorney, has claimed that the Saturday Night Fever star was assured that he would be allowed regular use of the airport when he constructed his $8 million home at Jumbolair, and that James Garemore’s allegations were incorrect.
“It’s spin in order to cover his butt because he knows that he is in big trouble for doing what he did, and we intend to establish that,” McDermott said.
Travolta’s legal team seeks the immediate withdrawal of the Garemores’ 2006 report.
