Officials at Santa Maria Public Airport are seeking public support to boost their bid for expanded service from the hub.
The airport is currently served by Allegiant Air, which flies between Santa Maria and Las Vegas, and it hopes that new services from the carrier will include a Santa Maria-Phoenix service.
Carl Engel, President of the Santa Maria Public Airport board, told The Lompoc Record that the potential passengers could visit the airport Web site to take a survey about potential new routes.
“Any expanded service is more than welcome,” he said. “We thought an announcement would come sometime in mid-August, and what we are trying to do to just move that along is show the positive attitude.
“I want the community to know that here is an opportunity that if you want to go east, here is a chance to get to Phoenix.”
Airport officials also hope to secure a deal with Frontier Airlines to begin service to Denver, CO.
