Plans have been submitted for improvements to the interior of Panama City-Bay County International Airport in Florida.
The Airport Authority is working on proposals to update the existing plan for a new airport building, which includes changes to the interior of the main terminal.
Reducing the number of windows in the prospective building and removing a planned open courtyard will help to reduce running costs and to increase the flow of passengers through the terminal, the airport said.
Joe Tannehill, Chairman of the Airport Board, told WJHG News that a new interior design plan will cut $1.3 million off the cost of the original construction project. “We still maintain a green building, which is silver status, so it’s environmentally in the right direction, so we haven’t given up anything environmentally. At the same time, we still have around 105,000 square feet of terminal space, so it’s going in the right direction.”
Changes to the interior of the airport were discussed at yesterday’s (Tuesday, December 4) Airport Board meeting at which officials considered ways of proceeding after original construction plans were put on hold by a federal judge.
The application for the new airport is to be reviewed later this month. Judges are expected to consider issues raised about the method used to grant permission for the airport.
