At the foot of Mt. Kairioi, near the waves of Manu Bay on New Zealand’s west coast lies a place that we’d venture to say is pretty close to bohemian paradise. And of course we’re sharing details.

Here’s a look at Solscape, an eco-retreat and self-proclaimed progressive learning center.

Because of the resort’s commitment to sustainability and minimizing its ecological footprint, there’s an array of interesting accommodations, all classified as “functional,” “earthy” and “simple.” For example – tipis (starting at $34 per person), recycled railway carriages or “cabooses” (starting at $27) and earth domes (starting at $82).

There’s also an organic, vegetarian kitchen on the premises – The Conscious Kitchen Cafe – which makes use of an earth oven.

And, surf and yoga lessons are provided on-site, in addition to activities like movie nights. There’s an educational component too in the form of workshops where guests and visitors can learn about sustainability and holistic well being.

We weren’t lying about that whole paradise thing.

To book a trip, visit solscape.co.nz. The least expensive accommodation option is the camp grounds which start at $17. Luxury eco-accommodations can be found for $180. The resort is two hours south of Auckland and 40 minutes west of Hamilton.
