We love to lay out the travel options here at Cheapflights to help you make decisions about where to go and what to do when you get there.

This time, it’s to the voting booth.

If you haven’t already voted early or absentee, here are some tips from the United States Election Assistance Commission that could ease the process:

  • Confirm the place you’re going to be voting before heading out to the polls. Know the specific location and the times of operation.
  • Make sure you have proper identification. Some states require a photo ID. Find out what’s necessary before going to vote. Check with your state or local elections office, or go to their website.
  • In some cases, be prepared to cast a provisional ballot. The EAC says, “Federal law allows you to cast a provisional ballot if your name does not appear on the voter registration record, if you do not have ID, or if there are questions about your eligibility to vote.” Whether or not that provisional ballot is counted or not is pegged to your eligibility. You need to make sure you’re familiar with the provisional voting process in your state.
  • If you have special needs, such as being wheelchair-bound, contact your local elections office for particulars as to how to gain access to the polling place.
  • For other questions, the United States Election Assistance Commission offers a wealth of resources aimed at helping you exercise one of your most fundamental rights. View a map laying out EAC-certified voting systems. Get state election Web sites, phone numbers and polling place hours of operation. Register for Election Assistance Commission newsletters.

Most of all, just vote.
