Canned music, no matter the flavor, is still canned music. They take your favorite tunes and turn them into something vaguely vacuous. Ever heard what they’ve done to Let It Be?
Lots of airports are particularly prone to the phenomenon. Not so for Austin, Atlanta and a handful of others like San Francisco International. For the third season running, the airport by the bay is promoting its You are Hear at SFO program – free summertime entertainment for passengers. The music reflects the diversity of the city’s rhythms: jazz, Brazilian, R&B and classical.
Mute the mayhem of the peak summer travel season on Fridays and kick back en route with:
- Acoustic guitar and Ragtime courtesy of Craig Ventresco. Terminal 1 is the venue, and Jul. 15 is the date.
- Instrumental jazz, soul and Latin music played by Tommy Guerrero. He will be in Terminal 2 Jul. 15.
- Pop and folk favorites from Willow Willow. Terminal 1 is the stage, and Jul. 22 is the day.
- Tango rhythms from Trio Garufa in Terminal 3 on Jul. 22.
Performances continue each Friday through the end of August along the concourses of Terminals 1, 2, and 3 at San Francisco International. You’ll hear classical harp, new classical, world music and chamber jazz as the summer winds down. All of this adds a bit of class to your day, costs you nothing and puts life on the fly into somewhat saner perspective.
Search and compare cheap flights to San Francisco to make sure you don’t miss out on the music.
