Nestled atop a handful of Ozark hills is Branson Airport, gateway to the self-proclaimed Live Music Capital of the World. Each year some eight million folks flock to this beautiful slice of southern Missouri to catch the shows, catch a break, and breathe deep.
Now, there’s another way to get there. Frontier Airlines says it will resume seasonal nonstop Milwaukee flights to Branson. The thrice-weekly service will run July 1 through Dec. 14.
Southbound Milwaukee flights to Branson depart at 8:50 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and pull up to the gate at Branson at 10:20 p.m. Northbound Branson flights to Milwaukee operate the same three days. They leave at 11 a.m. and arrive in Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport at 12:30 p.m. A 50-passenger ERJ-145 regional jet makes the hour-and-a-half trip.
Before the opening of the new airport in 2009 Branson-bound travelers had to fly into relatively remote Tulsa, Kansas City, Springfield, or Fayetteville and then drive the rest of the way. Now Branson’s airport is thriving. In addition to Frontier’s seasonal Milwaukee flights to Branson, OAG says:
- Discount airline AirTran offers nonstop Atlanta flights to Branson.
- Branson AirExpress lofts nonstop Austin flights to Branson.
- AirTran offers nonstop Baltimore flights to Branson.
- AirTran offers nonstop Chicago flights to Branson.
- Branson AirExpress runs nonstop Dallas/Fort Worth flights to Branson.
- AirTran operates nonstop Houston flights to Branson, and
- AirTran lofts nonstop Orlando flights to AirTran.
The rustic-looking (but thoroughly-modern) Branson terminal also has one of the best in-airport eateries in the country: Famous Dave’s Ozark Ribs – Hog Heaven U.S.A. It’s a great place to kick back and savor your trip to this piece of creation before heading home.
