WestJet’s Palm Springs prospects continue to prosper. At this precise point in time, according to OAG, Palm Springs boasts a quartet of nonstop international routes. All of them are to Canada, and all are flown by the discount airline.
The latest addition to WestJet’s schedule is nonstop service from Palm Springs to Toronto’s Pearson International Airport – a 2,090 statue-mile transborder trek. That makes it the longest scheduled nonstop flight out of the deep desert airport according to OAG.
In addition to Toronto, the discount airline also offers nonstop service from Palm Springs to Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton – all in the middle or western portions of Canada. Toronto marks WestJet’s first nonstop foray from PSP to eastern Canada.
It’s tough to make a run like this a daily affair. Aviation insiders refer to it as a “long, thin route.” That’s why WestJet is making the trip just on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flights operate through April 30. The southbound flight departs Toronto Pearson at 10:15 a.m. Eastern Standard Time and arrives Palm Springs at 12:30 p.m. Pacific Standard. The return leg does a quick turn and heads back to Toronto at 1:15 p.m., getting to the gate in Toronto at 8:38 p.m.
To ease the journey the discount airline’s Boeings are fitted with live seatback television, which are viewed from relative comfort of leather seats. WestJet says those seats offer “increased legroom.”
WestJet is selling one-way seats on its Toronto-bound 737-700s starting at $199 each-way, exclusive of applicable taxes and fees.
