If you’re staying awake at night worrying about flight prices in the upcoming season, breathe easy – they’re not all that extreme after all.
We’ve pulled some data to analyze how flight prices compare from last month to this month, and so far, there’s nothing to lose sleep over. You can travel (and sleep) as you please.
In assessing the change in average airfares on sale in September and October, we found that 796 routes had fluctuated: 51 percent of them increasing in price, and 49 percent of them decreasing. So, it’s just as hit-or-miss as usual, no scary Holiday Fare Monsters lurking in the shadows for now.
In order to get even more detailed, we looked at which of the 100 most popular routes had changed and found that 86 had fluctuated (55% up and 45% down). To help you plan your travels, below are the popular routes with the biggest price drops and increases:

Bottom line: While prices are fluctuating right now, it’s safer to do your homework and book wisely before assuming your route will have skyrocketed (or plummeted).
