Which airport fared the best, and the worst, in terms of on-time performance? How did airlines rank in November among consumers? FlightStats www.flightstats.com offers an insightful look at that month’s best and worst on-time performers among airports and airlines.
The top five carriers in the United States? Hawaiian (89.13%), Chautauqua (88.34), Virgin America (87.69%), Mesaba (87.25%), and Northwest (86.76%). The following airlines ranked at the bottom for on-time performance in November: Midwest (71.86%), Freedom Airlines (70.16%), Great Lakes Airlines (69.49%), and Allegiant Air (67.98%). Two of the four carriers—Freedom and Great Lakes—are commuter/regionals.
Here’s how FlightStats ranked November’s best, and worst, on-time airports in the country.
Top performers included: Oakland (OAK at 88.39%), Chicago Midway (MDW at 87.94%), Detroit Metro (DTW with 87.52%), and Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX at 87.49%).
The worst: Las Vegas (LAS at 75.48%), Philadelphia (PHL at 72.32%), New York Kennedy (JFK at 71.96%), and Mexico City (MEX at 70.89%).
A Cheapflights.com observation: In recent years, Continental’s hub at Bush Houston Intercontinental (IAH) and American’s hub at Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) have launched non-stop regional jet flights to a slew of smaller, out of the way Mexican destinations – such as Torreon (TRC) or Tampico (TAM). This avoids the need to connect over Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International.
