Good news for travelers on Los Angeles flights: it’s going to be less crowded at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) this holiday season. The condition of the economy means only 2.35 million flyers will fly through LAX – down 14 percent from the same period in 2007.

The drop-off is more pronounced for the airport that serves the eastern reaches of the LA Basin. Los Angeles World Airports, the entity that runs Ontario International (ONT), says 29 percent fewer flyers will frequent that airport this holiday, primarily because discount airline JetBlue and ExpressJet pulled out.

Still, some days are going to be busy. Both LAX and ONT expect the largest crowds Monday, Dec. 22, Friday, Dec. 26, and Friday, Jan. 2. If you’re on Los Angeles flights for those days, don’t forget to check your patience. It’s going to be busy and crowded so if you can’t handle the chaos, try to grab a flight on other days.
