The news of possible ‘standing room only’ flights sent shock-waves through the Internet – how could airline get away with such a concept, and even if it was a possibility, would passengers actually do it?

Turns out airlines are pushing through with this idea, and passengers would actually go for it.

We reported last month that Spring Airlines and Ryanair were considering these ‘standing room only’ flights for short-haul trips as a way to save money by nixing less-frequented routes and packing in more flyers on popular routes. Now comes word from Ryanair that their passengers would actually go for it.

The catch? Only if the flight was free.

Ryanair surveyed 120,000 passengers and found that 66 percent said they would stand on a flight if it was free,
but only 42 percent would agree to pay for the service. Seems 60 percent of flyers also think they should have the right to choose whether or not they want to stand on short flights.

What do you think? Would you fly standing room only if the flight were free? Share your thoughts.
