A third airline could be heading to Sioux Gateway Airport to provide flights alongside existing carriers Frontier and Northwest.

Rick McElroy, Director of the airport, said that improvement plans are in place at Sioux in order to make way for a new airline.

He told local news network KTIV-TV that he has a series of meetings scheduled over the next few months to discuss the possibility of airport upgrades and the arrival of a third carrier.

Improvement plans include restoring an out-of-service taxiway and modernizing the existing terminal building.

McElroy explained: “One of the things airlines look at when they come to an airport is the condition of your airport and the amenities that are available to them.”

A major rebranding initiative at the airport last year saw officials embrace the SUX airport identifier, with new slogan “FLY SUX” printed on a series of promotional merchandise.
