Airport Overview

Portland International Jetport (PWM) is located two miles (3km) east of downtown Portland, Maine. The busiest airport in the state, the facility processes more than 1.6 million people every year.

With a reputation for friendly and efficient service, the Jetport is a pleasant introduction to the cozy New England region, though it’s small enough that a stopover of several hours would be tedious. A new terminal is scheduled to open in October 2011 however, with expanded waiting rooms, security facilities, and a new food concourse to improve passenger experience.

Flights to Portland International Jetport mostly come from the Eastern US, Midwest and Canada, with destinations such as Toronto, Baltimore, Atlanta, Newark, Cleveland, Minneapolis, New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Orlando, Detroit, Charlotte and Philadelphia.

Terminal Transfer

There is only one terminal, so you can easily make connections between gates on foot.

Getting into Town

Train: There is no direct train service to Portland Jetport, but there are bus connections available to the Amtrak station downtown.

Bus: Greater Portland Transit District METRO bus Route 5 has service into downtown Portland from the airport from 6:35am to 10:18pm. A one-way fare is $1.50.

Taxi: Taxis are available during airport hours. There is a $1.50 surcharge for all fares from the airport. The average metered rate to most downtown areas is $17.

Car Parking

There is short and long-term parking available at the airport. Short-term parking is charged at $2 per hour with a massive $48 daily limit, so if you’re staying more than six hours rather go to the long-term garage or surface lot, which is only $12 per day.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: There are ATMs before and after security.

Luggage: Luggage trolleys are available for a fee. Lost luggage queries are handled by individual airlines.

Other facilities: pet relief area, vending machines, and handicapped facilities.

A snack bar and the Shipyard Brewport restaurant are located in the public area of the terminal; while, beyond security, there is a full-service Shipyard restaurant, a grab-and-go snack bar and a Starbucks, as well as beverage vending machines.
