The cool kids always get the most attention. In the  North American travel market, places like New York, Orlando and Los Angeles always sit at the popular table, gleaming brightly in their adoration.

We decided to dig a little deeper into the popularity hierarchy of North America’s travel hot spots to see which characters are giving the big wigs a run for their money.

After looking at the amount of searches that each North American destination got, it’s clear that a few Juniors are itching to make it big in the Senior pool. Hot (literally) spots like Mexico, Costa Rica and Guatemala are threatening to take the title, and idlers like Tampa, Florida and Manchester, New Hampshire are still kicking around by the freshman lockers.

Here’s a peek at the top five most likely to succeed:
Mexico City, Mexico
Guadalajara, Mexico
San Jose, Costa Rica
Guatemala City, Guatemala
St. Thomas, USVI

And the bottom five most likely to go to prom alone:
Tampa, FL (TPA)
Kona, HI
Las Vegas, NV
Savannah, GA
Manchester, NH
