Located about 10 miles (16km) south-east of Fort Myers, Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) serves the greater Southwest Florida region, including Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Sanibel Island, Captiva Island, Bonita Springs and Naples. More than 7.5 million passengers used it in 2010 and it is one of the busiest single runway airports in the US.

Comprising one Main Terminal and concourse B-D, with free Wi-Fi throughout, modern facilities and plenty of natural sunlight, Southwest Florida International is a compact yet state-of-the-art airport. Security checks and baggage claims are quick and efficient, amenities neat and tidy, and staff courteous and helpful. Getting into Town

Taxi:  Fixed-rate taxis may be ordered at the transportation booth located between the terminal building and the short-term parking garage. The fare is calculated according to zones and is applicable to a maximum of three passengers ($10 per each additional passenger). A trip to Fort Myers costs $35 and fare to Cape Coral costs $40. Journey time to either location is approximately 15-25 minutes, depending on traffic. 

Bus: The Lee Tran bus service runs from the airport to Daniels Parkway, where passengers may connect to other Lee Tran routes. A one-way ticket costs $1.25.

Car Parking

A parking garage directly across from the terminal serves mainly as a short-term car park. The first 20 minutes are free, after which rates are charged at $2 for per each additional 20 minutes, up to a daily maximum of $15. Long-term parking is located after the parking garage and costs $2 per hour, $11 per 24 hours and $62 per week; shuttles run between this lot and the terminal.

Information Desks

Two information desks are situated on the first level by the baggage claim area. The Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau offers a number of information kiosks, stocked with brochures and maps, scattered throughout the terminal.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: ATMs and currency exchange. FedEx services are available at the business center.

Luggage: There are lost-and-found facilities.

Conference and business: A business center offering access to fax machines, laptop workstations, photocopiers, as well as FedEx services, is located on the second level of the main terminal. A small meeting room is available for rent at the airport, while the nearby Wynstar Inn & Suites features larger conference amenities.

Other facilities: Newspaper vending machines and an airport rescue and firefighting facility.

Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal.

Shopping: A fair range of shopping options is available at Southwest Florida International. Popular stores include the Beaches Travelmart, PGA Tour Shop, Brighton Collectibles, Tropical Expressions, Coastal News, Books & Sanibel Bean, CNBC News, Island Paradise, Palm City Market and the Shell Factory. There are no duty-free stores.

Food and drink: Eating and drinking options are provided by a reasonable assortment of restaurants, bistros, bars and fast food vendors. Notable venues include Chili’s, Nathans, Starbucks, Quiznos, Beaches Boardwalk Cafe, Maggie Moo’s, Burger King, Cinnabon, Dewar’s Clubhouse, Sbarro, The Great American Bagel and Casa Bacardi.
