Airport Overview

Located four miles (7km) north-west of downtown Sarasota and 10 miles (6km) south of Bradenton, Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) is the gateway to the Gulf Coast of Florida, USA. It handles more than 1 million passengers per year.

The airport comprises one terminal building for both arrivals and departures, with limited facilities and services. However, the airport has a reputation for smooth check-ins, security and baggage claims; queues are mercifully rare. Staff members are generally friendly and amenities are neat and clean.

Perhaps the only downside is that, as a result of the small number of airlines serving the airport, flights to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport are expensive. Then again, one doesn’t have to endure the stresses associated with busier airports that offer cheaper rates.

Terminal Transfer

Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport comprises one terminal building with gates B1-B14, all of which are within walking distance of one another.

Getting into Town

Taxi: At a starting fee of $2.25 and a metered rate of $2.25 per mile, a taxi trip to downtown Sarasota will cost approximately $11 and a ride to Bradenton will cost about $25. Taxis are available outside on the west end of the terminal outside the baggage claim area.

Bus: Buses are available in the ground transportation area at the west end of the baggage claim wing; a one-way ticket to Sarasota costs $0.75 and the journey time is about 30 minutes.

Car Parking

Short-term parking is available just across the street from the terminal building, while long-term parking lies adjacent to the short-term area. The first 20 minutes are free for both car parks, after which charges are $2 for 21-40 minutes in the short-term car park, and $2 for 21-60 minutes in the long-term park. Each additional hour costs $1, although short- and long-term parking rates are set at a daily maximum of $13 and $11 respectively.

Information Desks

Information desks are located at baggage claim, on the second floor before security and in the concourse.

Money and communications: ATMs and a post office.

Luggage: There are lost-and-found facilities. Lost luggage queries are handled by individual airlines.

Conference and business: Located in the first floor lobby, the SRQ Conference Room serves as a meeting venue for business travelers. Catering is provided by the airport’s main restaurant, Dewar’s Clubhouse.

Other facilities: Facilities include childcare rooms, a Senior Friendship Center and first-aid services provided by Airport Rescue Fire Fighters.

Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available.

Shopping: Located before security, the Gulf Coast TravelMart provides a comprehensive range of apparel, gifts, media and travel accessories, while the PGA Tour Shop offers a selection of premium athletic and leisure branded wear. After security you’ll find a CNBC store stocking an assortment of newsstand items, including books, magazines and newspapers.

Food and drink: Eateries are limited to a handful of venues, including the Dewar’s Clubhouse bar and grill, Dewar’s To Go, Freshens, Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbuck’s Coffee and Gulf Breeze Cafe.
