Airport Overview

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT), often referred to locally as simply Manchester Airport, is a small airport about three miles (5km) from Manchester, New Hampshire. It handles roughly 4 million passengers a year and functions as a low-cost alternative to the airport in Boston, about 50 miles (80km) south and accessible by bus. Flights to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport come in mainly from hubs across the US, although Air Canada also operates a route from Toronto.

The biggest city in the state, Manchester is home to a number of historic sports venues, a few museums and a couple of colleges. There are some beautiful historic buildings in the downtown area, which is experiencing a revival, although most of Manchester-Boston Regional Airport’s traffic is still headed south to Boston and New York City.

No matter where you’re headed, Manchester-Boston is an efficient and friendly gateway to the delights of New England.

Terminal Transfer

This is a small airport with just one terminal. Here’s a tip: there are two security checkpoints – one on the ground floor and one on the first floor – and both go to the same place, so if one has long queues, try the other.

Getting into Town

Train: There is no train station at the airport.

Bus: There is a long-distance Greyhound service that travels from the airport to nearby towns such as Hanover, Boston and Burlington (routes 9143 and 9127) which you can also catch to downtown Manchester. It’ll cost $11 on weekdays and $13.50 on weekends. The bus into downtown Manchester leaves at 2:45pm.

Car Parking

The multi-story car park next to the terminal offers short-term parking, and long-term parking is serviced by a free 24-hour shuttle bus. Short-term parking starts at £2.20 for 30 minutes, £4 for the first hour, £8 for two hours, £12 for four hours, £18 for six hours, and £27 per day. Long-term parking is £27 for the first day, £40 for two days, and £10 per additional day after that. During peak summer season the airport parking occasionally reaches capacity, so if you can book in advance online it’s a good idea to do so, especially as you can get cheaper rates.

Information Desks

There’s an information desk on the first floor, in the baggage claim area.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: There are ATMs throughout the terminal.

Luggage: There are no left-luggage facilities at the airport. There is a lost-and-found desk on the ground floor.

Conference and business: The Granite Club, the airport’s frequent-traveler lounge, is located near the observation area on the first floor.

Other facilities: There’s an animal relief area near the North exit on the ground floor. There are also play areas and a games arcade.

Wi-Fi: There is free Wi-Fi available in the main terminal building.

Shopping: There’s almost no shopping to be had at this airport – just a few outlets of the newsagent Hudson News.

Food and drink: There’s a basic selection of eateries at this regional airport, mostly on the first floor. These include a Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Quizno’s Subs and a Great American Bagel Bakery if you’re looking for a snack. For something more substantial, head for the Milltowne Grille or Sam Adams Cafe and Pub. There are also a few vending machines on the ground floor.
