Airport Overview
Located on a man-made island in the Ise Bay, Central Japan International Airport (usually abbreviated just to Centrair) is a stunning “aircity”, and easily one of the most impressive airports in the country.
Flights to Centrair are operated by some 30 airlines, connecting Nagoya with hundreds of international destinations. Centrair is also a fantastic hub for intercontinental travel, with many low-cost carriers offering quick, cheap connections between leading Asian cities.
There is so much to see and do at Centrair, and so much to admire – in terms of the scale of the place, the amount of amenities and facilities it boasts, and even its cool, sleek futuristic aesthetic – that it might well prove to be the first airport you actually end up regretting having to leave.
Terminal Transfer
Centrair is a one-terminal airport.
Getting into Town
Train: By far the quickest, easiest way into the city, the Meitetsu Airport Line connects Centrair with Nagoya Station. The trip will take anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes. The Central Japan International Airport Train Station is connected to the terminal building by a well-marked pedestrian walkway.
Boat: High-speed boats travel to Tsu and Matsusaka Port.
Bus: There are many bus services operating between Centrair and a variety of destinations (both within Nagoya, and the greater Chubu area). The buses are located outside the 1st floor of the terminal building. Use Platform 3 for buses to JR Nagoya Station.
Taxi: Taxis are available right outside the terminal building. There is also a taxi information counter, located in the airport’s Access Plaza.
Car Parking
There is short- and long-term parking for 4,500 vehicles available at Centrair. The parking garage is connected to the terminal building by means of a covered pedestrian walkway. Parking is free for the first 30 minutes.
Information Desks
There are five information desks, located on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of the terminal building. Staffed by friendly, helpful people, you can get general airport information from them, as well as info about things to see and do around Nagoya.
Airport Facilities
Money and communications: There are several ATMs available in Centrair’s Access Plaza, and banks and currency exchange can be found on the second and third floors of the terminal building. Internet access is available throughout the airport, in the form of Wi-Fi hotspots, coin-operated computer terminals, and computer desks with dedicated LAN connections. There is also a fully-functioning post office on the first floor of the terminal building.
Luggage: Coin-operated luggage lockers are freely available, located at nine different points around the terminal building.
Conference and business: Centrair boasts a Business Centre offering fax, photocopying and bookbinding facilities, as well as two conference rooms and a translation service. You can even rent computers in the departure lobby from an office on the third floor.
Other facilities: Event Plaza, Centre Pier Garden, Sky Deck rooftop observation area, Kid’s Square play area, nurseries and baby-changing rooms, medical services (including on-call doctors), a spa offering massage and beauty treatments, a pharmacy, and full access and facilities for disabled passengers.
Wi-Fi: Freely available, as soon as you’ve passed through the security check. Note that all internet traffic is monitored.
