Airport Overview

Page sections

Duluth International Airport is located 5 miles (9km) from the city of Duluth, the westernmost deep-water port city on the Atlantic.

Though the city is quite small, there is still enough to keep visitors busy. As it's the birthplace of Bob Dylan, it’s no surprise that Duluth hosts its own music festival, the Homegrown Music Festival, in May each year. It also has the only freshwater aquarium in the US, and a number of museums.

Duluth International is a small airport that sees little more than 300,000 passengers per year. It's linked to other major US cities, including Minneapolis, Detroit, and Chicago. As long as you’re not waiting around too long, there’s enough to keep you busy - you can enjoy a quiet drink and a snack, or use the time (and free internet access) to catch up on your emailing.

Getting into Town

Train: There are no trains linked to the airport.

Taxis: There'll be plenty of taxis waiting just outside the main terminal building. Taking a taxi into Duluth will cost $14 - $20. You could also catch a cab to Superior, which would cost $30 - $40.

Bus: The Duluth Transit Authority Bus 5 leaves the airport on the hour. The fares are cheap – $1.25 for a single fare, or $3 for a day pass – though figuring out when and where to transfer to another bus can be a bit confusing. Some hotels, including Country Inn & Suites, Radisson Hotel and Holiday Inn, offer a free shuttle service. Skyline Shuttles also service the airport from the Radisson Hotel – it'll cost you $42 one-way, or $69 return.

Car Parking

There’s both short-term and long-term parking available.  Short-term parking costs $1 per half hour, $9 per day, and $54 per week. Long-term parking costs $2 per hour, $7.50 per day, and $45 per week. A lost ticket would end up costing the daily rate, depending on where you've parked.

Information Desks

There are no information desks in the terminal, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem since the airport is quite small and easy to navigate.
