Though an airport has existed on the site of Coventry Airport since 1933, the airport has only been operating as a passenger terminal since 2004. The operations are controversial as the terminal is housed in temporary buildings which were made without planning permission. The airport is trying to obtain planning permission for a permanent building. It is a hub for Thomsonfly, which has flights to 13 destinations in Europe. Central European low-cost carrier Wizz Air began flights from Coventry to Gdansk and Katowice in 2007. www.coventryairport.co.uk

Official airport parking (tel: +44 (0)2476 282 662; Web site: www.parkingatcoventryairport.com) is located both on-site and around the airport boundary, linked to the passenger terminal by free shuttle bus. On-site parking is in a 38-space parking lot, and is limited to stays of one hour or less. There are around 100 spaces available in off-site parking lots if longer stay parking is required. Passengers should allow 40 minutes for parking their car prior to check-in. There are designated disabled parking spaces available in both the short and long stay parking lots, and assisted transport to the passenger terminal from the off-site parking lots is available.
