The outdated idea that Cleveland’s the “Mistake on the Lake” falls fatally flat. Rid yourself of notions rooted decades ago. This town is a cultural, culinary and educational Mecca. It’s suffused with museums, restaurants and entertainment venues that more than match better-known cities.

It’s also affordable, especially when you purchase a Cleveland Plus Pass, a deal that gives discounted admission to ten of the city’s major attractions. Up front, admission to the city’s main draw – the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – is not included, but almost everything else of consequence is.

Although the pass can be had for two, three or five days, the three-day deal just might be the best value, given the propensity of folks to take shorter trips these days. It sells for $34.95 for adults 13 through 59.

Among other places, the Cleveland Plus Pass buys you one-time admission to:

–         The Children’s Museum of Cleveland, a place focused like a laser on the most wondrous sort of early childhood development.

–         The Cleveland Botanical Garden. Open year-round, the Glasshouse is populated by exotic plants and animals, all here in northern Ohio.

–         The Cleveland Museum of Art. Lose yourself in the galleries, corridors and crannies of one of this country’s five best art museums. Masterpieces and surprises abound.

–         The Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Kids love dinosaurs, and some of us are dazzled by diamonds. They’re both here. The museum is an interactive meshing of art, history and the natural world.

–         The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo gathers more than 3,000 species from the world over. The centerpiece of the show consists of the largest collection of primate species on the continent.

–         The Museum of Contemporary Art is stunning: new building, magnificent collection. MOCA is mystic.
