Airport Overview

Brisbane International Airport (BNE) has a big job to do, since it’s the only airport serving this city, a key portal to Australia’s famed Gold Coast. The sprawling airport – 9 miles (15km) from Brisbane – is laid out in a line stretching several miles from the Domestic Terminal to the Airport Village complex, with all terminal buildings connected by indispensable shuttle and rail services.

Flights to Brisbane International Airport are available from cities all over Australia, New Zealand and Asia, with additional service to several cities in the US, including Los Angeles. The most popular routes though, are the near-daily flights to Sydney, Melbourne, and Cairns.

Passengers flying into Brisbane will find it a welcoming introduction to Queensland, and a convenient gateway to the sunny beaches and sparkling waves of the Gold Coast.

Terminal Transfer

The Domestic and International Terminals are a little over one mile (2km) apart. There is an Airtrain or T-Bus service (both A$5 – kids go free on Airtrain and kids under the age of four go free on the T-Bus), and taxis are available for transfers (fares about A $15).

Getting into Town

Train: the Airtrain Rail Link has frequent service to downtown Brisbane, leaving every 15 minutes and arriving 20 minutes later. Trains run from 5:40am to 8pm on weekdays, and from 6am to 8pm on weekends. A fare into Brisbane is A$15 for adults, while children travel free of charge. There is also frequent service to the Gold Coast, costing from A$26 for adults and about A$5 for children.

Bus: Coachtrans Australia is the licensed bus operator at Brisbane Airports. It meets all flights (domestic and international) and offers a door-to-door service. Fares cost approximately A$16 to the Brisbane CBD. Sunshine Coast is another shuttle company, offering 16 services per day, 5am to 9pm.

Taxi: There are taxi ranks at both the International and Domestic Terminals. A typical fare into Brisbane’s CBD is A$30-35, with an optional tip of 10-15 percent. The trip takes roughly 25 minutes. Extra fees are added for late-night journeys.

Car Parking

Short-term parking is adjacent to the terminal, and costs A$2 for 15 minutes, A$6 for 30 minutes, A$13 for an hour, and escalates up to A$40 for four hours or more. Long-term parking is connected to the terminal via a covered walkway, and costs A$40 for the first day, A$60 for two days, and A$80 for three days.

Information Desks

There is an information desk located on Level 2, open from 6am to 2am.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: ATMs, currency exchange offices, public phones.

Luggage: There are luggage lockers in the International Terminal, with fees ranging from A$4-8, depending on the size of the locker you need to rent.
Conference and business: There are several executive lounges in each terminal with business services, though mainly, these are only available to airline club members.

Shopping: There more than a dozen stores in the airport, with most offering souvenirs and beach gear to Gold Coast tourists. The usual duty-free options are represented in the International Terminal. Airport Village has a broader range of shops, including supermarkets and department stores.

Food and drink: There are various fast food joints and coffee shops spread throughout the airport, and a bar, the Morton Bay Alehouse. If you have a couple of hours to wait and want a sit-down meal, the Airport Village complex has more options.
