This is the time of year fliers begin flocking to Alaska. Most of them will fly nonstop to Anchorage (ANC) and either change planes there, or connect to cruise lines or trains.

To eventually make getting to, from and around Ted Stevens Anchorage International easier, a number of changes are in the works:

– Look for the number of traffic lanes in front of the South Terminal to shrink while construction is going on. That means the curbside drop-off and pick-up areas on both the upper and lower levels will be constrained. Follow the signs for directions;

– To cut congestion, there’s a new cell phone waiting lot. That means people picking passengers up don’t have to endlessly circle the terminal complex. Again, follow the signs;

– By mid-July, the peak of the summer season, there should be additional parking in the Airport Parking Garage;

– There’s a free airport shuttle between the North and South Terminals, as well as to and from the Short/Long-Term parking lots, and the Rental Car Parking Lots;

– Finally, all this construction means ticketing and check-in for a number of carriers has been shifted about. Don’t depend on past memories gleaned from the last time you were in the 49th State. Best bet is to go to the Web site at www.anchorageairport.com for particulars.
