Check-in

Virgin America allows you to check in online up to 24 hours before your flight departs. Everyone you fly with must check in at the same time, and should be at the gate 30 or more minutes before departing. If you haven’t checked in by that time, reservations can be subject to cancellation. Special needs passengers (like unaccompanied minors) or groups with 10 or more people cannot use online check-in.

Baggage

Carry On: Each passenger can bring one bag and one personal item (like a purse or a briefcase), just make sure it fits in the overhead bin, or under the seat in front of you. Carry-ons should weigh less than 16 pounds, and, fit within 10 in x 16 in x 24 in. 

Checked: Each passenger is allowed to check one bag for free, as long as it is less than 70 pounds and 62 linear inches (length, width, and height). 

 

Excess: A second checked bag (weighing up to 50 pounds) will cost $25, and more bags (up to 10) cost $50 each. One overweight bag costs $50, and bags weighing more than 100 pounds will not be accepted.

Virgin America is known for its premium economy class, which is known to allow main cabin passengers more room without needing to purchase a first class ticket.

Passenger Change Details

Changing your flight details with Virgin America is easy, you just need to pay a fee for certain changes. If you’re in the main cabin on a non-refundable flight, then a change will cost $75 (more if there is a fare difference), and if you have a refundable flight, then there is no fee, unless the flight itself is more expensive. For first class guests, there is no fee unless your new flight costs more. Changes need to be made before departure time. Visit Virgin America’s homepage to change or cancel a reservation.

Child Fares

Children younger than two years old don’t need their own seat, but please inform the airline that you will have a child with you. He or she may sit on their guardian’s lap, as long as the guardian is older than 15. One infant can travel with one adult, but if there are two infants per one adult, an additional seat needs to be purchased. You can also buy a seat for an infant, but you must also supply the proper safety restraints. If your child turns 2 during the trip, you still must buy a ticket for the return flight. Children four years old or younger are too young to be unaccompanied, but children from 5-15 years old are fine. They can only travel on non-stop flights, and a $40 fee is added to the ticket fare.

Pets

A small dog or cat can travel with you as long as it has its own kennel that fits the dimension requirements. Animals must be two months old and have a veterinary certificate within 30 days proclaiming its general health and safety conditions. $50 I added to your ticket if you bring a pet.

Carrying Musical Instruments

Virgin America’s standard baggage rules apply, but a seat may be purchased for a large instrument. Reservations should be made in advance for a checked instrument that may exceed dimensions. A fee is added for extra weight or length.
