US citizens should make sure that they have all of the proper documentation to travel to Cali, Colombia. You must have a passport that is valid when you enter Colombia and still valid when you exit Colombia. This passport must have at least one blank page for an entry stamp. If you are a tourist, you do not need a visa as long as you leave within 90 days. If you overstay your 90 days, you will be subject to a fine. It is also possible that you will not be allowed to leave the country until you pay that fine.
When you fly to Cali, Colombia, you will be landing at the Alfonso Bonilla Aragon International Airport (CLO). Situated in the center of the Cauca River Valley and surrounded by the Andes Mountains, this airport operates 24 hours a day. CLO welcomes flights from three American cities. American Airlines offers direct flights to CLO from the Miami International Airport (MIA) in Miami. Avianca flies into CLO from MIA and from the John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City. Spirit Airlines flies in from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) in Fort Lauderdale.
From Cali, you can access a number of different Colombian cities. You can go by bus or taxi northwest to Buenaventura, a coastal city on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. The trip is approximately 72 miles. From the Alfonso Bonilla Aragon International Airport (CLO), you can reach the city Palmira in a mere 14 minutes by taxi. Palmira, like Cali, is a prominent city in the Cauca River Valley. If you are interested in visiting Tulua, a major Colombian city northeast of Cali, it is a journey of about 1 hour by taxi from CLO. You can also take a bus to Tulua from CLO, which will take about 4 hours.
