Airport Overview

Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport is just 11 miles from central Izmir. The International Terminal was completed in 2006.

Izmir’s airport has a modest but varied selection of shops and dining options, useful for passengers who may endure notoriously long check-in times during peak travel times.

Cheap flights are usually available on IZair, SunExpress and Onur Air, which all use the airport as a regional hub. There are also a number of charter companies offering flights to Izmir Airport as well as some low-cost carriers.

Izmir Airport is the perfect gateway to the Gulf of Izmir on Turkey’s Aegean coast. The coast is home to a number of popular resorts and holiday attractions and Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport is a great way to get to the coast without having to deal with the hustle and bustle of flying through Istanbul.

Terminal Transfer

The International Terminal and Domestic Terminals are separate buildings, but are connected via walkways, making it an easy walk between the terminals.

Getting into Town

Train: Both the Turkish state railway trains and local IzBan (metro) trains stop at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport. Roughly 14 state railway trains depart from Izmir Airport Station each day. IzBan trains run every 12 minutes during peak times, but every 24 minutes during off-peak periods. Disposable card tickets can be bought at the station and can generally be re-used for ferries and buses in the city. The airport station is called Havalimani Station and it is located in the Domestic Terminal. Passengers coming from the International Terminal can get to the train station via the car park attached to the International Terminal.

Bus: Turkish Airlines runs the Havas airport shuttle bus between the airport and its offices in town. The shuttle runs at 20, 35 and 60-minute intervals throughout the day, with frequent departures during peak hours and less frequently at night. Havas buses are generally reserved for passengers traveling on AtlasJet, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Air, Onur Air and Sun Express, but passengers traveling on other airlines are able to use the bus when there are spare seats. Local buses No. 200, 202 and 204 have services from Izmir Airport. Route 204 is the most useful of the public buses as it runs between the airport and Izmir’s Metro Bus Station.

Taxis: Taxis can be caught outside both terminals. Passengers will need to bargain for the best fare. Fares increase between midnight and 6 a.m. Passengers staying at one of the larger hotels should check to see whether their hotel offers free airport transfers as many offer this service.

Car Parking

The airport has a four-story car park located at the International Terminal. Direct links are available from the car park to both the arrivals and departures floors of the terminal.

Information Desks

The information desk is centrally located within the International Terminal. Staff are friendly and they can generally speak some English and occasionally another language, such as German.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: The airport has one bank and a currency exchange desk in the International Terminal. There are also five ATMs located within the terminal. Public telephones can be found throughout the airport.

Luggage: The lost-and-found office is located in the international arrivals part of the airport. A luggage-wrapping service is available in the departures hall of the International Terminal. Left luggage storage is available on the arrivals floor of the International Terminal. Porters and luggage trolleys are also available at the airport.

Conference and business: The Millennium Lounge has a number of business facilities including Internet, telephone and fax services. Conference facilities are also available in the International Terminal.

Other facilities: First aid clinics and a prayer room in the International Terminal. There is also a hairdresser and the airport is accessible for passengers with disabilities.

Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is available in the International Terminal. Wi-Fi users in the airport’s lounges can access the service free of charge, but passengers not using the lounges will be charged.
