Alitalia Check-in

The time limit for check-in is different at each airport, so make sure you give yourself enough time to get everything done. Alitalia suggests that you arrive between 60 and 120 minutes for intercontinental flights. If you are traveling with pets, you are asked to check in at least 90 minutes before the scheduled departure of the plane.

Alitalia baggage allowance

Hand luggage: One piece of hand luggage, 5kg in weight, with dimensions (iairlinencluding handles, side pockets and wheels) of 22in x 9in x 13in.

Checked: Economy class passengers are allowed to bring two suitcases, up to 50lbs each, the maximum measurement per suitcase 62in.

Excess: From North America, excess baggage rates are $150 US per piece. If the bag is bigger than 62in (to a maximum of 80in), the fee is $150. If the piece of baggage is heavier than 50lbs (up to 70lbs), the fee is $50.

Carry on: You are allotted one carry on weighing no more than 15lbs. You are also permitted to have one personal item such as a purse, briefcase or laptop.

Checked: Your allowance is one piece weighing no more than 50lbs. Children between the ages of two and 11 have the same baggage allowance as adult passengers. Infants under the age of two are allotted one piece with a maximum weight not exceeding 22lbs. For children up to 11 years old, there is free transportation of one stroller, applying on all destinations and booking classes. Charges apply for extra baggage.

Alitalia legroom

Seat pitch: 31-32 inches.

At the time of reservation, Alitalia offers the option of choosing a specific seat on the aircraft. The airline will try to honor such advance seating requests; but if the aircraft to be used for a certain flight is replaced or modified, Alitalia cannot guarantee the specific assignment of any seat, even if it has already been confirmed.

Passenger change details

Name changes are not permitted. Check with the airline regarding other changes.

Child fares

Children under 12 are entitled to fare discounts, depending on the flight. Check with the reservations center when booking. Infants under the age of two may not occupy a seat.

Senior fares

Some senior discounts may be available. Check with the airline.

Pets

You can travel with pets, but you have to request the special service at your local Alitalia office, making sure that you have all the necessary documents. If accepted as checked baggage, animals, with their container and food, will not be included in the free baggage allowance but will be considered excess baggage for which the you may be required to pay a charge. Guide dogs will be carried free of charge in addition to the free baggage allowance.

Carrying musical instruments

You can carry any musical instrument that is not longer than 40in as carry on. For a cello, you must buy a seat. Other instruments longer than 40in are treated as cargo.

In-flight service

For medium-haul flights over three hours and all long-haul flights, complimentary meal service is available. Special religious or dietary meals are available upon request.

Air miles

The airline’s frequent flier program is named “MilleMiglia” (thousand miles), and is part of the SkyTeam alliance program, allowing passengers to collect miles and redeem them for free tickets across the whole alliance.
