Vladivostok has a typically Russian climate, with fairly warm summers and bitterly cold winters. If you want to enjoy the seaside facilities in this region, the best time to travel is from May to September, though it should be noted that it would usually be cheaper in September and May as these months fall within school term time.

Vladivostok overview

The city of Vladivostok is unlike any other you’ll see in Russia. Offering all of the usual post-war monuments that are an ideal way to peer into the city’s past, it also has a real zest for modern life. There are cosmopolitan districts filled with impressive shops, restaurants and museums, as well as what was once a navy harbour, which is now the perfect place to view the picturesque Golden Horn Bay.

Many begin their visit at the waterfront and head to the Sportivnaya Gavan boardwalk. Here you’ll get the rare opportunity to enjoy a full seaside resort on the edge of the great city. The fairground rides light up the night sky, making this the perfect place to enjoy a traditional seafood dinner while you watch the sun set. For the ultimate beach experience, take a short trip to the nearby Russky Island.

No trip to Vladivostok would be complete without a visit to one of its many museums. The Naval Memorial, Regional History Museum and the Vladivostok Fortress Museum retell the impressive and very colourful history of this city. After spending the day perusing their collections, grab a coffee on Admiral Fokin Street, a charming little district that has beautiful views of the open sea. Don’t make your journey home without visiting the Vladivostok Funicular. The short rail journey offers a fantastic view on a clear day, giving you a whole new perspective of this wonderful city.
