Located in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy, the island of Jersey has a unique culture that reflects its geographic position and historical influences from countries on either side of it. Although it is a British Crown Dependency, Jersey has its own legal system (a mixture of Norman and English law) and even its own language – the Norman dialect Jèrriais – that remained in widespread use as recently as the 20th century.

The island’s beautiful countryside and rugged coastline draw visitors in droves. Enjoy more than 30 beaches on the island, as well as Jersey’s historic sites ranging in significance from the modern era to prehistoric times. Don’t miss the charming atmosphere and well-preserved architecture of towns such as St. Helier and St. Ouen.

Jersey climate

Jersey’s southerly location and sheltered position in the bay of St. Malo often bring warm, dry weather in July and August. In fact, the island usually enjoys more heat in these months than any destination in the nearby U.K. December through February is typically the coolest and wettest time of year on the island.

Best Time to Fly to Jersey

Peak season:

May through September constitute Jersey’s peak season, as this is when weather is warmest and driest. The island is busiest at this time, and this is reflected in accommodations and travel prices and availability.

Off season:

Jersey’s off season typically occurs from December to February, when the weather is likely to be cold and wet. March and April are good months for off-peak visits, as the weather is usually pleasant but the high tourism season has yet to commence.

Getting around Jersey

Jersey’s picturesque countryside is ideal for hiking, but driving or taking public transportation may be desirable for longer trips.

Bus routes are available throughout the island. Services include routes from Liberation Station on St. Helier’s Esplanade to Gorey Pier, Durrel, Bonne Nuit Bay, St. Ouen’s Bay, Elizabeth Harbour and the airport. Taxis are also available with taxi stands in St. Helier and at the airport, in addition to the option of pre-booked taxi services.
