Rome, Italy
At Easter, Rome is one of the most popular travel destinations in Europe. Christians and Non-Christians alike come to celebrate, visiting the Vatican and watching the dramatic street processions. A solemn Holy Week leads up to the Pope’s celebration of the “Via Crucis” (Stations of the Cross) in several languages near the Colosseum. Easter Sunday (Pascua) and Monday (la Pasquetta) are joyous holidays, when people gather at St. Peter’s Square (Piazza San Pietro) and St. Peter’s Basilica for Easter Mass, also held by the Pope. While you’re there, the Vatican Museums are another attraction worth visiting.
