Cheap Toronto Hotels

Just on the other side of the U.S. border sits one of Canada’s top tourist cities. Toronto is the fifth largest city in North America, one of the most populated cities in the world and takes on Hollywood every year when it hosts the Toronto Film Festival. With all that Toronto has to offer it’s no wonder hotels are plentiful in this Northern Canadian city. Deciding where to stay is just the beginning of planning your trip to Toronto.

Toronto hotels range from budget-friendly to old-world elegance and so do Toronto hotel prices. When choosing a hotel in Toronto consider the following: if you stay in the city proper you’re bound to pay a little more for location; high-season means higher prices, no matter what part of Toronto you stay in; every Toronto hotel charges a 5% accommodations tax and 5% GST to the total spend.

Your best bet for finding the best Toronto hotel: The city is massive so map out what you to see and then choose a hotel that’s convenient to your itinerary.

Harbourfront: The Harbourfront area is one of the prettiest sections of downtown Toronto, known most notably for its playground that opens onto the lake. Located in the area is Harbourfront Centre where tourists can embrace literary, artistic and cultural works of art. You’ll likely recognize the hotel names in this area: Westin, Fairmont, Intercontinental, Hilton and Hyatt. You’ll also recognize these brand name prices. Staying in the Harbourfront area is convenient to just about everything in Toronto, but you’ll pay for your location.

Theater District: Home to the Royal Alexandra Theatre, the Princess of Wales Theatre, Roy Thomson Hall, the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts and Metro Hall, Toronto’s theater district is clearly one of the more theatrical sections of Toronto. Toronto hotels near the Royal Alexandra Theatre range from $100/night to $500/night, but if you’re in town to catch the cultural arts, this is the location to be.

Chinatown: Toronto’s Chinatown area is packed full of restaurants, merchants and supply stores catering the Chinese community. Shopping centers stand in the middle of the area, but hotels are rather sparse. On the up side, if you plan to spend time in the Chinatown area you won’t have a problem finding cheap Toronto hotels.

Kensington Market: Toronto’s Kensington Market is one of the more culturally-diverse sections of Toronto. Home to a vast variety of nationalities, Kensington Market is full of ethic restaurants, food shops and clothing stores. On Sunday’s in the summer, the area is shut down to cars while pedestrians mosey their way through the open-market exhibitions. However, despite its large draw, you won’t find many hotels in the area. If you’re looking to stay at Toronto hotel near Kensington Market consider the nearby Yorkville area.

Yorkville: One of Toronto’s trendiest areas, Yorkville is the place to be if you’re looking for designer boutiques, art galleries, chic cafes, and endless restaurants. Of course, this kind of luxury comes with a price. Toronto hotels in Yorkville will set you back a few Canadian Dollars, but if you’re visiting Toronto to indulge, this is the place to stay. Popular hotels including the Toronto Intercontinental, The Hazelton Hotel, The Windsor Arms Hotel, the Toronto Marriott Bloor and the Yorkville Hotel are located here.

The Beach: If you’re looking for an escape from the Toronto crowds, “The Beach” is where you’ll stay. Only a quick drive from downtown Toronto, The Beach is a family-friendly area that is open to everyone. Hotels aren’t plentiful in the area, but you can find a Toronto timeshare or house to rent in the area for you stay.

The Annex: Located near the University of Toronto, the Annex is home to many students and professors, making this area of Toronto seem very college-like. Don’t let that dissuade you from booking Toronto hotels in the Annex. The Annex is widely regarded as a shopping mecca and known to be one of the friendliest neighborhoods in the city. Nearby attractions include the Bata Shoe Museum and the Royal Ontario Museum, which makes staying in this area convenient and cultural. Because of its large student population, cheap Toronto hotels can be found in the Annex.

Church Street/The Gay Village: The heart of Toronto’s gay and lesbian community can be found in the Church Street district (also known as Gay Village). The neighborhood boasts a casual atmosphere and is a huge tourist draw for those seeking a laid-back day. Along Church Street you’ll find Toronto’s impressive churches. Toronto hotels in the Church Street area range from budget hostels to luxury boutiques.
