New York Hotels

The Waldorf Astoria, the Grand Plaza, the Carlyle, the St. Regis: Luxury hotels of New York’s rich and famous that continue to reign as New York’s elite rooms for rent. The names alone exude glitz, glamour and style, but if you’re looking for cheap New York hotels, these palatial spaces might be out of your price range. While it’s not unlike New York to come up with a deal, it’s likely you’ll find your perfect New York hotel off Fifth and around the corner from some of the hottest New York attractions.

Midtown: New York’s Midtown area is one of the top hotel destinations in the city. Close to everything, New York Midtown hotels range in price from budget friendly accommodations to luxurious digs including the famous St. Regis New York and the Mandarin Oriental. If you want New York luxury and discount prices, try something more mid-range like the Bryant Park Hotel or the W Hotel Times Square. Budget-conscience travelers looking for prime location and discounted prices should still prepare to pay around $150-$200/night for Midtown New York budget hotels. However, New York hostels are becoming more common in Midtown, and hotels are always able to offer freebies or discounts on tour packages or nearby restaurants, which might offset your cost.

Times Square/Theater District: One of the most recognizable sites in the world, New York’s Time Square is one of the ultimate tourist draws. The bright lights of Broadway guide travelers through the theater district in search of their favorite show or off-Broadway production. Times Square hotels are plentiful but price is a factor. Big name hotels like the Marriott Marquis, the Renaissance New York and the Millennium Broadway lean toward the more expensive stays, but a reasonably-priced New York hotel in the Theater District will still cost you upwards of $250/night. There are plenty of New York hostels in the Times Square area that offer cheap room rates for those travelers willing to stay in less-than-luxurious digs. One thing you won’t have to worry about if you stay at a New York hotel in Times Square is accessibility – this area has it all and is close to everything!

Greenwich Village/East Village: Known as the boho-chic area of New York, ‘the Village’ is home to designer boutiques, art galleries and tons of colorful cafes and restaurants. Street vendors share space with art collectors, restaurants poor out into the street and tourists and locals blend over a simple cup of coffee. Most of the New York hotels in Greenwich Village are renovated homes duplex apartments that have been turned into suites. On the outskirts of the village you’ll find the up-and-coming Meatpacking District, which is home to the famous Hotel Gansevoort, a popular meeting ground for New Yorkers and their guests.

SoHo: The area known as SoHo (South of Houston) is one of New York’s most fashionable neighborhoods. Designers create some of the world’s most sought-after fashion, and open their studios to passerby’s vying for a glimpse at next season’s must-haves. Hold on to your credit cards while you pass through SoHo. Finding a hotel in New York’s SoHo district should be done with care – too close to the designer duds and you’ll find your room packed with bags, too far away and you might miss out on an original design. SoHo’s GEM Hotel and the Hotel Azure are two of the area’s most popular New York hotels, but for those staying a little longer and needing extra space, consider a suite or rent a loft instead of opting for pricey New York hotels.

Tribeca: Lower Manhattan is known for its stylish ways and laid-back attitude, and Tribeca is no exception. Home to the famous Tribeca Film Festival and the Tribeca Grand Hotel, New York’s trendy Tribeca truly has it all: 5-star restaurants, chic boutiques, and New York hotels that have to be booked months in advance. Booking a New York hotel in Tribeca is a good choice for those travelers staying in the lower area, including Greenwich Village and SoHo.
