Cheap Houston Hotels

You can keep New York or Los Angeles, I’ll take Houston. The southern city is a haven for bargain shoppers looking for everything from designer duds to antique housewares. Whether you’re Downtown looking for a trendy designer, in Montrose checking out antique furniture, or Uptown perusing dozens of stores in the Galleria, Houston has plenty of goods for consumers on the prowl. Sports fans will flock to the Astrodome while nature lovers frolic in the gardens in South Main, and art aficionados rate the art galleries in Montrose. Houston hotels range from budget to luxury, so find one that suits your wallet and get ready for an unforgettable experience.

Downtown: If you love a little nightlife head downtown for a Houston hotel near restaurants and bars. Decades ago, Houston’s downtown was deserted at night but now, Houston hotels and local nightlife establishments have multiplied in the area, drawing both locals and travelers in for fun after sundown. The Old Market Square and the Theater District are both downtown too, so if you’re interested in the symphony, ballet, or opera, then Houston hotels downtown make for easy access. Also close by is the Museum District and the Medical Center. One of the best things about downtown Houston is that it’s connected to everything else through the light rail – Houston’s public transportation service – and via pedestrian tunnels.

East End: While the East End may not be the most popular section of the city, you’ll easily find cheap Houston hotels here. Economy and budget hotel chains are scattered throughout the East End. Some regard the neighborhood as up-and-coming, but even for those who don’t, the East End is most famous for its close proximity to NASA Space Center. Fisherman’s Wharf and Galveston Island are nearby. Houston hotels in the East End are mostly located on the Gulf Freeway, so once you’re here you can be anywhere else (if you have a car) within minutes.

South Main: Peaceful, historical, and full of culture, the South Main section of town is the perfect place to find a Houston hotel if you’re planning on visiting museums or exploring the green areas. On a nice day, check out the Houston Zoological Gardens and the Rice University Campus for a beautiful walk or jog in the fresh air. Sports fans feel at home with a Houston hotel in South Main, thanks to the closeness to Reliant Stadium and the Astrodome. Hotels here suit every traveler’s budget, ranging from the discount Houston hotels- to more luxurious accommodations. Also conveniently located on the light rail, a Houston hotel in South Main means easy access to the rest of the city.

Montrose: Montrose is a must-see when you travel to Houston. Artsy and colorful in nature, Montrose has a very unique spirit achieved by its historical significance, as well as its new creative vibe. Artistic folks booking a Houston hotel in Montrose can walk to the Menil Collection and eye the many galleries in its domain. Independently owned art galleries and shops nearby please imaginative, consumer-driven crowds. A mix of upscale and casual, Montrose has one very distinct characteristic: It hasn’t served alcohol in over 100 years. It’s important to obey the laws in Montrose, but if you’ve traveled to Houston in search of antique shops and folk art, you’ve found the right place.

Kirby District: Here’s where you need to go when you want to eat. Bordered by Kirby Drive and University Place, the Greenway Plaza is constantly busy with patrons walking in and out of shops, restaurants, movie theaters, and the sports arena. If you’re looking for shopping aside from Greenway, then Rice Village (in walking distance) offers some of the bigger brands in its 16-block area of shops and restaurants. Always busy at dinner time, this district is a great place to meet locals who are out for a drink, or a fun place to bring a big group. Find a Houston hotel in the Kirby District, and you’ll always have something to do.

Uptown: Uptown hosts the variety show that comprises every other neighborhood in Houston. A little bit of art, shopping, dining, businesses and nightlife is scattered all over this section of the city – no matter what you’re looking for, you can get a taste of it here. Starting at Loop 610 and spanning to Post Oak Boulevard, Uptown used to be called the Galleria Area, but the owners of the actual “Galleria” (a shopping/entertainment/hotel complex) didn’t like the idea of the public cozying up to the name. Today, the formal name is “Uptown” but whatever you call it, you’ll find plenty of Houston hotels in Uptown to suit your travel tastes.
