A three-day weekend is coming up just down the road: the celebration of the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. One way to spend the extended holiday, to really get away from it all, is by booking a flight to Santa Fe. The Santa Fe Convention & Visitors Bureau has a few suggestions as to where, and how, to make the most of a quick getaway:

–         Hit the slopes with a ski package from Santa Fe Inn. Book two nights and get a day of free skiing or snowboarding for two people. Rates start at $239. The inn is adjacent to Santa Fe’s Railyard district, an enticing enclave of art galleries, cafes and places to shop.

–         Book your own accommodations at one of the city’s hotels, unpack and then make the half-hour journey to Ski Santa Fe, arrayed along the southern slopes of the magnificent Rockies. The area sports seven lifts and 77 ski trails. You don’t have to be an expert to command the elements out here. The terrain is set up for all comers, regardless of age or ability. Bring the kids along for this one. They can nest in their own Chipmunk Corner.

–         Rather nest yourself with your beloved, and eschew skiing and other outdoors pursuits? Perfect. Four Kachinas Inn is a romantic bed and breakfast nestled in the historic South Capital neighborhood. Its rooms are luxurious and suffused with art. Four Kachinas offers a 15 percent discount on reservations of two or three nights.

No need to fly into Albuquerque to get to Santa Fe. American Eagle offers convenient nonstop service from both Los Angeles International Airport as well as American Airlines’ megahub at Dallas/Fort Worth International.
