Airport Overview

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is located three miles (6km) southeast of central Reno. The airport is the second-busiest in Nevada because it’s so close to the vacation and ski resort of Lake Tahoe.

The facilities are limited but sufficient, with enough food and shopping to entertain passengers. There are slot machines in the terminal if you want to try your luck, but in Reno-Tahoe you aren’t tripping over them like in Las Vegas McCarran Airport. The airport rarely feels crowded, and is a pleasant introduction to the beautiful mountains of the resort area.

Flights to Reno-Tahoe International Airport are mostly regional, coming from destinations like Seattle, Chicago, Houston, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Denver, San Francisco and Phoenix.

Terminal Transfer

There’s only one terminal.

Getting into Town

Train: There is no train service to Reno-Tahoe Airport.

Bus: RTC Ride provides public buses to downtown Reno from the north end of the curb near baggage claim. Route 19 operates to and from the airport on weekdays.

Taxi: Taxis are available outside of the D doors north of baggage claim. A cab ride into central Reno takes about 10 minutes and costs about $20.

Car Parking

Airport parking is located in the three-level garage opposite the terminal building. Short-term parking (first level) is charged at $1 for the first 30 minutes, $2 for the first hour, and $1 per hour after that to a maximum of $24 per day. Long-term parking (second and third levels) charges similar fees, but has a daily maximum of $14. You can pay for parking with cash or by credit card.

Information Desks

There is an information desk located in the baggage-claim area.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: There are four Wells Fargo ATMs in the terminal, and mail drop boxes outside on the curb.

Luggage: There are luggage trolleys available for a fee. The lost and found handles items lost within the airport, however lost luggage queries are handled by the individual airlines.

Conference and business: Airport “productivity centers” provide ports for charging laptops or other electronic devices and countertop work stations.

Other facilities: Other amenities include slot machines, massage chairs, a dog park and handicapped facilities.

Wi-Fi: There is free Wi-Fi access throughout the airport.

Shopping: Most of the shops at Reno-Tahoe Airport are pretty generic, with a few souvenir stores and newsstands. There’s also a PGA Tour Shop, and a Best Buy if your iPod dies.

Food and drink: For a relatively small airport, Reno-Tahoe has a good selection of dining options. You can choose from a burger at McDonald’s, a coffee at Peet’s, a salad at Green’s Healthy Choices, a gourmet sandwich at Max’s Eatz, or a breakfast pastry at La Brea Bakery. If you want to sit down and have a meal, you can try either Brew Brothers or Panorama Bar.
