This time of year can be hard on the vocal cords folks. People just let loose and scream. Not out of frustration, but joyous fright – the kind you find at SCREAMS Halloween Theme Park south of Dallas/Fort Worth.

SCREAMS is open right now, and will remain so over this coming weekend. This haven of horrors bills itself as “much more than a haunted house.” That’s where the venue’s five major attractions come into play: the Castle of Darkness, 3D Pirates of Peril Point, the Arcane Asylum, Unkel Koy’s Klown Maze and the Ghoulish Graveyard. The beauty of the park is that you can take in these big five draws as many time as you’d like – all for the general admission price of $24.99 per person. Kids under five get in free, though you might want to exercise some parental discretion before bringing them along.

Locals love the place. Some 60,000 of them descend on SCREAMS each year, and the park is gaining a strong regional reputation. In addition to the main attractions there are live bands, a souvenir and mask shop and places to grab a soda and something to eat.

The whole idea here is to enjoy yourself, but there are some things you can’t do. You can’t wear costumes or masks inside the park, or bring in food or drink. Bring along your camera, but don’t use flash. If you’re going to purchase alcohol, know that you’ll have to get a free private club membership. It’s the law in parts of Texas.

SCREAM is in Waxahachie, Texas, about half-an-hour south of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. You’ll find it on FM 66, just to the west of Interstate 35.
