The National Mall
If the National Mall sounds like the hub of American shopping, it is not. Instead, it is the nexus of tourism in our nation’s capital. Surrounding the tree-lined park are all of the biggest attractions: The Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the museums of the Smithsonian Institution, the Capitol building, and many more must-do stops. It is also the site of quintessentially-DC celebrations, rallies, and demonstrations, from the Cherry Blossom Festival that marks the official arrival of spring, to the annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally for veterans. It’s not a bad spot for a picnic either, so pack yourself a sandwich, some comfy shoes, and get ready for a relaxing, educational, and enriching day.
