International Rose Test Garden
Portland’s rose gardens are famous, and none more so than the International Rose Test Garden. The garden began in 1917, when hybridists from around the world sent their roses to Portland, to escape the bombing in Europe. Now the garden boasts 7,700 rose bushes with 550 varieties and serves as a testing ground for new varieties. Trained volunteers can give you a tour among the flowers, fountains, paths and statues that make up the beautiful garden. Some of the tour highlights include the miniature roses, the Shakespeare Garden and the Beach Memorial Fountain.
