Attractions

Parliament Hill

Visitors can watch the Canadian government in action at Parliament Hill. The complex is made of three buildings. The center building has a distinctive Peace Tower that you can climb for a view of the area. It also houses the House of Commons and the Senate, allowing people to watch laws being formed. The country’s first prime minister, Sir John A Macdonald, held office in the east block, and you can now tour restored versions of the office and interact with historical characters from Macdonald’s era. The west block is the only one closed to the public and is where members of parliament have their offices.

You can also see the Mackenzie King Estate, a giant landscaped space in the middle of the park where Canada’s tenth prime minister, William Lyon Mackenzie King, spent his summers.
